Coming Events
Wednesday, 17th October 2007, – The Producers
Matinee 2.30 pm Milton Keynes Theatre. Cost £30.00 per person. Please contact Rob Weston if you would like to take up one of the remaining places. After 31st July remaining places will be offered to our supporters.
Tuesday, 6th November 2007 – L’Elisir d’Amore
Glyndebourne Touring Opera’s production of Donizetti’s two-act comic opera, ‘L’Elisir d’Amore’ (‘The Elixir of Love’). ‘L’Elisir’ follows in our growing ‘tradition’ of a pre-Christmas visit to Milton Keynes for a comic opera experience that is both fun and very well done. ‘L’Elisir’ promises to be every bit as enjoyable as ‘La Cenerentola’ and ‘Die Fledermaus’. Our seats are the familiar Rows G & H in the Circle. Tates are providing a 49-seater coach which will depart from Westminster Lodge Rear Car Park, St Albans at 5.15p.m. Car parking there is free for the evening. Peter Fells will provide everyone who has booked with a synopsis of the opera. Tickets will be £43.00 each.
Saturday, 24th November 2007 at 7.00pm – St Stephen’s Church Hall, Watling Street
This will be an enjoyable social evening for members and their ladies. The evening will include:
- Entertainment by ‘Welwyn Harmony’ – the fabulous ladies’ Barber Shop chorus.
- A delicious supper.
- A ‘fun’ quiz.
- Our very own compère.
Full details will be available from Ryland Clendon at our September luncheon. All this for £13 per person – not to be missed!
Tuesday, 1st April 2008 - The Magic Flute
The Welsh National Opera’s production of Mozart’s ‘Magic Flute’. A mixture of serious and comic, with Masonic associations, ‘Magic Flute’ is full of well-known tunes and is surely a must for anyone who has ever been tempted but never dared to try opera! The same 49 seats as for L’Elisir. The coach will depart for Milton Keynes from Westminster Lodge Rear Car Park, St Albans at 5.15p.m. Car parking there is free for the evening. Peter Fells will provide everyone who has booked with a synopsis of the opera when he calls for payment of balances due. WNO is cheaper than Glyndebourne, therefore tickets will be £39.00 each, all inclusive.
Thursday, 3rd April 2008- Falstaff
The Welsh National Opera’s production of Verdi’s ‘Falstaff’. Based on Shakespeare’s ‘Merry Wives of Windsor’, this is a comedy and many would give it top place among Verdi’s works. After discussion, we concluded that ‘Magic Flute’ would be the most popular choice, hence the coach trip, but we have 20 seats for folk to self-drive to Milton Keynes for ‘Falstaff’. Tickets will be £30.00 each provided we retain full discount by selling all 20 seats. Peter Fells will provide everyone who has booked with a synopsis of the opera.
In addition the following trips are being planned for 2008:
- April - Ightham Mote and Down House in Kent.
- June - Hever Castle in Kent
- July - Uppark (National Trust) near Petersfield and a trip on the Watercress Line in Hampshire.
